A CLACKS charity band has had one of their tracks nominated for song of the year at a national country music awards show.

WDR, which stands for Walk Don’t Run, had their song The Bridge make the final five shortlisted for the award, given out by UK Country.com.

The six-piece charity band, who all hail from the Wee County and Larbert, faced tough competition from professional and semi-professional artists.

Joe Young, founder of Walk Don’t Run, wrote The Bridge and credited friends and family for helping the band get where they are today.

“The Bridge reflects the WDR ethos and what we are striving to achieve,” Joe said. “It’s about helping and supporting and giving a steadying hand.

“We couldn’t have gotten this far without the help of family, friends and supporters who have been amazing since we started gigging two years ago.”

The Bridge was launched as part of the band’s first EP, titled Never Too Old, and was recorded at SubStation Studios in Rosyth.

Alex Todd, member of WDR, added: “We play our own brand of country music and we were up against professional acts, but we are possibly unique being a charity band.

“Any money raised at gigs or given in lieu of a fee is passed straight on to our nominated charities.

“So far, we have raised over £6000 for local charities and good causes and hope to hit the £10k milestone early next year.”

The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony and concert held in the East Midlands in October.
