WEE COUNTY commuters will be without a dedicated rail service for an entire week as the electrification work continues.

Travellers will face disruptions and delays, with all trains in and out of Clacks cancelled between Sunday, October 14 and Monday, October 22.

Services from Alloa to Glasgow Queen Street will start at Larbert, with buses drafted in as a replacement.

Those wishing to travel from Alloa to Edinburgh Waverley will need to first catch the bus to Falkirk Grahamston.

Journey times will be extended by around half an hour each way.

As the next stage of engineering works takes hold, Network Rail is advising people to leave extra time for travelling on these routes, and to plan journeys in advance.

Paul Reilly, Network Rail programme manager, said: "With new electric trains being introduced in December, the project is reaching a crucial stage and our engineers will be working around-the-clock to finish these works on October 22 when the line will re-open for morning services.

"We are sorry for the inconvenience these works will cause to some passengers and residents and we are working hard to keep disruption to a minimum."

The line closures will allow engineers to complete the overhead line electrification work, as part of the Scottish Government's rolling programme of electrification.

Sunday services for Alloa to Glasgow trains have already been withdrawn until October 28, with journey times in that instance being doubled as a result.
