AN EX-HEROIN addict has been sent back to jail for misbehaving whilst out on licence.

Charles Roberts, 42, broke his bail conditions by entering Nithsdale Drive in the South Side when banned on July 15 this year.

During a trial at Glasgow Sheriff Court last week, the accused was also convicted of acting in an aggressive manner within Nithsdale Drive and en route to Cathcart police station on the same day. He was found guilty of shouting, swearing and repeatedly uttering threats.

Returning to court for punishment this week, Roberts' lawyer admitted his client had an "extensive record" but claimed that it had reduced over the years. Sheriff Ian Miller, who convicted Roberts at trial, noted that the accused's criminal record had nine charges for breach of the peace.

The defence agent highlighted Roberts' historic battle with alcohol and heroin. Although he was no longer an addict, the accused still had difficulties with drink.

Given that Roberts committed the crimes with 57 days left on licence for another matter, Sheriff Miller could see no option other than prison.

The accused, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to 214 days in jail.
