MORE than 3,700 people enjoyed sunshine and showers at Alexandra Park Festival Day.

Packed with fun and entertainment, the event included live music from St Francis Pipe Band, Brass, Aye?, Organised Noise and Beat That Samba Drummers, as well as food and market stalls, activities, inflatables and sport tasters.

James Dean, events and communities lead at Platform, said: "It was brilliant to see so many people of all ages enjoying a family fun day out and we were delighted with the turnout.

“We’d like to thank everyone involved.”

To start off the celebrations, a carnival-style procession of more than 15 children and adult community groups made their way through Dennistoun, showcasing an array of costumes and decorations made in creative workshops across the wider area in the run up to the day.

Groups included local belly dancers, Bridgeton Community Learning Campus, Gingerbread, Milnbank Housing Association, Tron St Mary's Church, Platform, Reidvale Adventure Play Association, Royston Youth Action, Rosemount Family and Rosemount Women's Group, Urban Fox Castlemilk, Urban Fox Helenslea, Mini Professors and Tollcross YMCA.

Dennistoun councillor Allan Casey said: "It was such a fantastic day.

“The carnival procession was full of colour and vibrancy and it was great to see the whole community coming out to support the event.”

Councillor Elaine McDougall agreed: "Well done to all the local groups and organisations that helped to make the Festival Day happen. Another great event."
