THE Strathearn Harriers entered the Loch Leven Half Marathon last weekend and thankfully avoided the forecast swarm of midges.

Organised by Kinross Road Runners, the race comprised a loop around the loch. The weather was perfect on the day with little breeze and moderate temperatures.

Ben Murphy put a great performance in to finish ninth overall in 1.22.49, taking four minutes off his result from last year.

The achievement puts Ben into fifth position in the Scottish U23 half marathon rankings for the year.

Next Harrier in was Tony Wayte, who ran his 100th race for the club. He finished in 1.34.16 and was followed by Jim Alexander in 1.37.56.

The pair were followed by Andy Scott in 1.43.09 and Graeme Aitken in 2.07.01.

Winning the race was Iain Whitaker of Edinburgh AC in a time of 1.14.55.

Loch Leven was the fifth race in the club championship and Tony's result moves him to the top of the table on 43.82 points, with Ben at 36.31 and Andy at 33.31 competing for podium spots.

The club is open to all runners with regular sessions throughout the week. There is an active juniors section too for youngsters aged between nine and 16.
